Yes, but I think it's up to the intelligent people involved to stop the
rehashing. For instance: Listmember J claims, "Clinton was a criminal and
a perjurer, and should have been impeached, removed from office and thrown
in prison." and Listmember A rebuts with, "You are so wrong - the supposed
perjury was not material to the case, and the entire pursuit of this issue
was a politically-driven farce helped along by a media focused on
titillating stories and a petty, vindictive bunch of mid-level political
hacks." The discussion between Listmembers J & A continues to develop,
until it boils down to "Is so!" "Is not!". It's incumbent upon the
listmembers participating to drop the subject and move on. If we don't let
them decide when to stop discussing things, who does? I'm certainly not
going to do it. I'll just delete the messages I'm not interested in. If
there's an individual that especially annoys me, I'll set up a message rule
to delete their messages entirely. If I'm no longer happy with the list,
I'll go. All of this can be accomplished without fanfare, dramatic
announcements or ploys for sympathy. I expect the same level of maturity
from everyone else, although I can't enforce it, and wouldn't want to.
