I drive a Saturn...According to an SJMN editorial the auto industry
manipulated the labor unions to get them on the pro-SUV side, persuading
them that they would lose jobs if Detroit was not allowed to make
bigger and bigger gas guzzlers!!!! Well it would hurt their bosses'
PROFIT MARGIN. whichi is 10x as much on truck type SUVs (cuz they are
fundamentally WW2 Jeep technology!) as on modern passenger cars. But it's
not like they couldn't retool their factories to produce more efficient
vehicles. They just don't WANT to. They would probably rathe just cut
production (and Jobs) than not build SUVs. Of course, some efficient cars
I guess are costing American jobs. The UAW must hate the (American market)
Ford Focus because they have the 3door built in Mexico (the 4 door is US
built.) But I suppose if thy wanted to they could outsource SUV production
to another country too. Grrrr. The whole thing sucks.
Whatever happend to "which side aer you on?" like in those old union
songs?
