They had B-36s and B-47s "on alert"--loaded and ready to go--against the
Soviet Union.
You seem to be missing the question: The US had an overwhelming
superiority in nuclear weapons in 1950, had used them in war 5 years
earlier, and actually considered using them to stop the invasion of SK by
NK, and NK still invaded SK. 50 years later, NK has its own nuclear
program and for the US to use nuclear weapons (except perhaps in response
to a first strike from one of the other nuclear powers) is literally
unthinkable, so it would seem like NK had more to fear in 1950 than now . . .
