To clarify, and not to make an inflaming statement:

I believe your concern is that the nickname is merely demeaning, and
therefore has no value.

The nickname of "Shrub" could be, and has been construed as a comment about
George W. Bush's political qualifications and accomplishments.  Shrub =
"Little Bush" = Not the man his father was. It has been defined as such
throughout 'Dubya's' political career.  Contextually, if someone is arguing
(as Molly Ivins is,) that 'Dubya' isn't a skilled politician, then such a
nickname can be considered valid.  

Ever read the Texas papers while the man was Gov?  Shrub is the nicest thing
he was called.
