When the CIA trains them how to build bombs, how to infiltrate into crowds and
enemy strongholds, when they supply explosives and comms gear etc, the line starts
to blur...

It must have seemed so logical to set these people against the enemy  at the time
- the enemy of my enemy is my friend is a logical progression (to western minds at
least), and no-one had any idea that (for example) once the Russians left
Afghanistan the trainees would use their training against other intervensionists
(which is how they see the US)

I do see a clear distinction between what the CIA did and what Libya, Iraq et al
have done, in that the goals weren't specifically destructive and the intention
was that it would never be used against civilians, it's just a shame it didn't
work out that way. I'm guessing we have underestimated the capacity of these
people for hatred...
