Isn't the med school or part of it in the city?
I am in NYC. The med school and New York Hospital are at 70th Street (midtown) on the East River. I live at 77th street near the Hudson (a block from the Museum of Natural History. Close enough to see and smell the smoke. Too far to hear the explosions. My hospital executed its disaster plans perfectly but unfortunately there were no victims to treat. My family was split up but unharmed. My wife was visiting her mother in New Jersey and did not make it back until Wednesday. My daughter (12 years old) was in her second day of school in the Bronx. My son a senior in the same school did not have class until late in the morning. He left about 9:30 without watching the news and after waiting for about 45 minutes for the subway came home. Miraculously my wife was able to get through to me and told me that our daughter was fine (no reason for her not to be). Since we couldn't get through to my son I walked across Manhattan to make sure he was fine. He was. My daughter was p! ! icked by her friend''s mother and they went to upstate New York (100 miles) to get out of the city. I stayed at the hospital until about 9 pm and was prepared to spend the night but there was no point so I went home. We were reunited on Wednesday. Amazingly given the large number of families that work on Wall Street in our school, none of my children's friends or our friends were killed. A few close calls but that is all. A wonderfully boring story. But I will tell you that it was horrible. There was no rational reason for me to be afraid for either my wife or my kids. There was no reason for any of them to be near the trade center but until I had seen or talked to them I was afraid. Walking back and forth across the City that day was also strange. It was a beautiful day. Lots of people were out many were jogging or biking or roller blading so superficially it looked normal. Unless you looked at peoples faces. We were all stunned. I managed to make a wrong turn in the ce! ! ntral park and it took me a minute or two to figure out where I was.
