I lost my hardcopy, and am unwilling to spend $$ to purchase the text of the editorial
from the Times website, but my favorite line about this subject came from an
editorial by Thomas Friedman in the NYTimes last year. It was entitled "Letter to
Arafat" and was signed 'Bill Clinton'. (Friedman often positions his editorials in
the form of 'what-if?' letters written by famous political figures.)
I'm paraphrasing: "Late one night, last year, Israel launched 11 missiles into
palestinian-occupied territories. 10 of them hit their targets, and the last hit an
empty parking lot. Do you have any idea what kind of precision that requires? Mr.
Arafat, you couldn't score that high on Nintendo."
It's generally understood that the Israeli army is an elite force.
