Sounds like this was the 2-hour telethon to raise money for victims of the
attacks that was on every TV network. (literally)

I saw a part of it on TV before going out. During that part, someone
performed "Imagine," and I thought that the "Clear Channel" radio network
must _not_ be one of those carrying it. I heard the end on the
radio: apparently I missed "Bridge Over Troubled Water," but heard "God
Bless America" and then Willie Nelson singing "America the Beautiful."

My opinion of the portion I saw on TV was not terribly favorable: More of
the actors giving tributes to emergency workers and missing WTC workers
than not spoiled the effect by apparently not being able to read the
teleprompter, so they stumbled over the names of the people they were
supposed to be honoring and other simple words. They sounded like either
they were reading cold (and I got the impression that these segments were
videotaped, not live) and had never seen the names of the people they were
supposed to be honoring before. It would have looked better if they had
been reading off a piece of paper in their hand and gotten the names right
than try to look "spontaneous" and "sincere" and showing that they had no
idea who or what they were talking about.

And if this was supposed to be a telethon, where was the toteboard showing
how much had been contributed?

God bless America,
Land that I love!
Stand beside her, and guide her
Thru the night with a light from above.
From the mountains, to the prairies,
To the oceans, white with foam
God bless America!
My home, sweet home.
