I'm somewhat astounded at the fact that I cannot disagree with anything in
John's essay. The part of me that would argue for the sake of argument is
disappointed.

But I do want to add something that I'd like to see acknowledged more often
in public discussions of our response to terrorism -- sadness, frustration
and perhaps even anger that we have no better alternatives than military
action. As I wrote the other day, this seems like using chemotherapy and
radiation to fight cancer. They're the best we have, but they're crude and
primitive. I *hate* the fact that it is necessary right now to support
military action. But that doesn't mean I won't support it, even as I pray
and work toward better answers... and look forward to another life in which
we will have infinite freedom.

I think what John wrote here is a fine expression of the positive ways in
which we must also respond to the conflicts among the cultures in which
terrorists arise... which, as Oklahoma City showed us, includes our own.

Love conquers all.

Nick
