I still haven't heard how the Israeli nationalists on this list intend to
solve their Palestinian problem.

We all agree that almost all Palestinians have a rabid hatred of
Israelis/Zionists (This is perfectly understandable. If I were a Palestinian
I would consider all Zionists mortal enemies). And most of them have an
almost deranged hatred of Jews.

This results in the following connundrum.

1) Israel can't negotiatie a peace deal.
     a) The religious refuse to abandon holy ground
     b) The level of insecurity will increase
     c) Israel's strategic position will be worse
     d) The Palestinians will try to use this to their advantage.

2) Israel can't unilaterally withdraw.
     a) The religious refuse to abandon holy ground
     b) The level of insecurity will increase alot
     c) Israel's strategic position will be worse
     d) The Palestinians will try to use this to their advantage.

3) Israel can't evict all the Palestinians
     a) Given Jewish history ethnic cleansing is utterly hypocritical
     b) The option is immoral
     c) The option is contary to the stongest international law
     d) It will probably result in war
     e) It will produce an anti-Western embargo

4) Israel can't maintain the status quo
     a) The level of insecurity will increase
     b) Israel's economy will suffer
     c) Successive generations of Israelis must engage in low-grade
human rights violations traumatizing them and harming democracy
         in Israel.
     d) The Palestinians will try to use this to their advantage.

As near as I can tell, the concensus in Israel has settled on option 4 by
default. Unfortunately, this is *least* viable for the long-term.

I still think that Israel and the West are strong enough to get away with
option 3. Moreover, the current war will provide cover for a final solution
to the Palestinian problem. Furthermore, if the allies use the war as an
excuse to occupy Iraq and Iran then bring those countries into the alliance
on the model of Germany and Japan then the allies would insulate themselves
against any oil embargo. Even taking Malaysia and Indonesia into the
equation and assuming an alliance of convenience with China, Islamdom could
not oppose this coordinated policy on the part of the first-world allies.

As for Osama Bin-Laden, Al Qaeda, and Afghanistan let's send a few special
forces in and make a show of things. But Afghanistan is strategically
irrelevant to the USA and tactically forboding.

The idiots gave us an excuse.
Lets be true to our European heritage. GRAB THE LOOT! Justify our actions
after the fact.

We solve the following:

-- The Palestine problem. (The Palestinians are few and weak. In 100 years
even the Arabs will barely remember them if they are evicted from the West
Bank. This is the logical conclusion of Nettanyahu's Bantustanization
policy.)

-- The Iraq problem

-- The Iran problem

-- The logistical problem of how to get to Afghanistan (this is a correlary
of solving the Iran problem.)

-- The Kurdistan problem (We give them parts of Iraq and Iran and a teensy
token part of Turkey)

-- The short-term oil security problem.

Plus we gain four long term allies:

-- Kurdistan: a protoge of Turkey (an excellent trade for a sliver of
far-eastern territory.)
-- Iran probably a protoge of the US
-- Sunni Iraq (centered on Baghdad) an anglo-Israeli-EU protoge
-- An Arab Shi'a state centerd on Basra (also a protoge of the US, and almost
a client of Iran)

---------------------

However, the US should punish Israel for adopting (or non-adopting) policy
option 2, and especially policy option 3!

Option 3 is even less viable for the USA than for Israel.
Make peace, make war, or go find some other gullible power to underwrite your
continued existence.
