Also in the "cheery thoughts" department.... there was just a report on the local CBS evening news about how the Indian Point Nuclear power plant (on Long Island) *is* a logical and visible target, and as a result, they've
added National Guard troops to their in-house security force. According to the broadcast, the containment buildings are built to handle a plane crashing into them at 500mph. I don't find this at all comforting. An image of Blinky the three-eyed fish keeps coming to mind. Jon On Sunday I drove past Three Mile Island going to a gas station (1.179 a gallon!). There are two entrances but the second one is only for equipment that can't cross the main bridge. At the main one was a women holding an M-16 that look as big as she did. She didn't have fatigues on, I don't know if she was national guard or the private security force. The main problem is that when TMI was sold two years ago they fired all of the security people who were on the payroll and contracted the services of a private firm. The same firm that provided security where I worked. People who were a) caught sleeping on the job, during the day b) old and in some cases senile c) young and were caught have sex in a conference room. As much as I like the concept of girls and guns, I'm not sleeping better at night with that crew protecting the place. Good news is that they just started the refueling process, which will take at least ten months. Kevin T.
