I'm too young for it to have a real impact on me, but I have a vague sort of
annecdote.

The December 1979 issue of 3-2-1 Contact magazine had a "New Decade" poll
for kids with such questions as "Do you think the Loch Ness Monster will be
discovered (a) in the 1980's, (b) after the 1980's (c) never". Among the
questions:

"When will all four of the Beatles get back together? (a) in the 1980's (b)
after the 1980's (c) never"

Of course, just one year later...

Another decade passes, I suppose.
