Hey, I just finished reading Shadow of the Hegemon! (Didn't make me cry tho... :) IMHO it was good, but despite a few intriguing twists became predictable about halfway through, which I found disappointing. (I won't post spoilers onlist.)
I really liked Ender's Shadow when I'd read it, but on a first readthrough, felt it didn't measure up to the original. A second reading of Ender's Shadow coupled with Ender's Game (re-reading the same scenes simultaneously) provided a much fuller picture and greater appreciation of OSC's accomplishments in constructing a successful sequel.
IMO, there was something just a bit creepy and unnerving about Bean's backstory. OTOH, the way he was constantly second-guessing Ender's real motives was what really drew me in.
Is there a name for this genre of scifi? Authors who tell the same stories from different angles? (In this case it's not quite Rashomon (sp?))
