SPOILER In the movie the dwarf Gimil (sp) and the rest of the party were uneasy to go to Moria because they had to go through all of the mountain. It seemed to me that they expected dwarfs to be there in good numbers but the passage to the other gate would be 'fun'. In the book they didn't expect any dwarfs, maybe one or two digging around in the bottom. Of course I don't know anymore cause I haven't read farther. But right now I like the movie way better: you were expecting some relief and more dwarfs; instead you got the sad scene of seeing everything devastated. Kevin T.
