There are? Eeeeeeek! Oh, wait, I'm rapidly turning into one of those. :) I've been insanely busy at work lately, and the lack of sfish topics since 9/11 has reduced the intersection between my rabid interests and the lists rabid interests. My book stack is almost empty, so perhaps I'll pick up Kiln People while I'm waiting for a new Egan novel. :) So what's up with Josh lately? * Got hooked on playing GLTron - http://www.gltron.org - make sure you have updated OpenGL drivers for your system (I thought the game was an embarassing joke at 320x200 until I updated my drivers, and it is VERY sweet at 1280x1024 now). Y'know those old light cycles games we all wrote for our Apple II/C=64? Well, welcome to the 21st Century. The perfect game to play in celebration of the 20th anniversary of the game, and the release of the DVD (which all of the local stores are sold out of, damnit, so I picked up 2010 instead). * Still Rubik's-type puzzles. My latest project-in-progress (very slow progress) is to try out the transforms at http://www.zeta.org.au/~sausage/twistymegasite/cuboid-transformations.html to convert a 3x3x3 into a 3x3x2 or a 2x2x3. * I finally got a replacement for my flaky wireless router in the mail today, and I'm thrilled that it was up and running in 5 minutes after opening the box. I'm sitting on the couch in my living room with a laptop and a puppy on my lap, surfing. Sweeet (both the puppy and the WLAN). The customer service was lousy until I started giving them my work email address. That was fun, and the first time I've used that little "perk". :) * Saw Lord of the Rings 3 times since my wife is a little obsessed. She reread the books twice between the 1st and 3rd seeings, just to get psyched up. She's threatening me with seeing it a 4th time, but I think she's just got a thing for Elijah Wood. * Read "From One to Zero", a history of counting and numbers. Very insightful. Probably the neatest take away is realizing that our spoken numbers and our written numbers are from entirely different roots and how very ancient our spoken version is. * I've been playing around with writing PocketPC software in my spare time. I have an old-school PocketPC, 2000 vintage. The new 2002 P/PCs have a skinned Today screen, so I felt the urge to write one for my ancient device. Lots of little APIs to learn. Still not working quite right. * Still reading: http://www.sluggy.com/ http://www.boxjamsdoodle.com/ http://www.dieselsweeties.com/ http://www.sinfest.net/ http://www.explodingdog.com * No idea who The Fool is, but I wish everyone good luck.
