Now see you are just wrong. You are equating failure to do something about slavery with racism. Are you calling Jefferson a racist also?
Here is a poor site ranking, well he picks the top one, presidents: http://www.yankthechain.com/history.html Kevin T. OK, I read the site, and it doesn't even pretend to do real analysis, but a few points just for fun (all from memory - I don't do no stinking research :-): 1. The guy obviously doesn't know jack about American history - during the 19th century, high tariffs were a _pro-corporate_ position, as American corporations were heavily protectionist. Only much later did the US adopt the British free trade position. 2. The Sherman Anti-Trust Act was initially used as an anti-union law, not anti-corporate, although its initial intent was to attack large companies. But it spent its first 20 years or so being used to attack unions. It's also probably in the running for "worst written law" in American history, but that's neither here nor there. 3. The Panama Canal wasn't even begun until TR's term, so _if_ he was involved with it at all, it's mainly as someone who says "Gee, that would be a good idea" - not something you usually give a President much credit for. 4. Finally, he lost re-election because he presided over one of the greatest economic collapses in American history, ranking not all that far behind the Great Depression. "Pissing off too many people in politics and business" had nothing to do with it, unless by that you mean pretty much every person in the United States since a lot of them were unemployed. Gautam :-)
