I had that same problem.  My CPU was (apparently) overheating, and
causeing the system to give random BSOD's everywhere.  I attached a
second fan (from an old power supply) to the case facing the CPU and it
never happened again.  (This same problem would take a linux system down
too).

Other than that, I wrote a program once and did some bad pointer logic in
it, so somehow the program got a hold of the display buffer.  Didn't
crash the system per se, but the screen just started doing weird things.
