Of course, a proper skeptic would look this problem and think, "Science and religion address wholly separate kinds of truth because the more science knows, the more religion must find a way to make itself relevant by staking out, or inventing, a concept of 'reality' that science cannot by definition assail."
Historically religion has been very happy to make pronouncements about the nature of the physical world--whenever it can get away with it--after all. [spoiler for Kiln People] . . . And, just to make this more on topic, I'm going to point out that the major theme of Kiln People is that science may ultimately solve the problems of religion, too.
