US Air miles good on flights to the moon, almost

ARLINGTON, Va. -- Another over-the-top (literally,
this time) affinity program belongs to US Airways,
with the carrier one-upping the Star Alliance, which
touts itself as "the airline network for earth."
Under an agreement with Space Adventures, a space
tourism company, US Airways frequent flyer members
will be able to earn and redeem miles for a suborbital
space flight, as well as zero gravity and supersonic
high-altitude jet flights or astronaut-led shuttle
launch tours.

The suborbital flights aren't planned until 2004 or
2005, and they will cost 10 million miles.

That makes the Zero Gravity flight (250,000 miles plus
$2,000) and the Edge of Space flight (275,000 miles
plus $8,000) seem relatively easy to obtain.

Participants still will earn miles on the flights,
which, a US Airways spokesman said, would come to
250,000 miles for the suborbital adventure.
