"I am not a lawyer", but here's how I understand it, based on watching lawyer shows on TV. ;-) A class action lawsuit allows a large group of people, who have all been wronged in the same way by the same party, to sue that party in the same trial. They are often used in product liability cases, where a faulty product injured a large number of customers. All the injured people can join together their complaint into a single class action suit. If the "class" (possibly wronged group) wins, they all share the money the suit gets from the losing party. That way, it saves the courts from trying a large number of lawsuits seperately. It is also much easier for the injured parties to join an already set up class action suit, than it is for them to sue seperately. One recent example of a class action suit was when a large group of women sued the company that made a particular brand of silicone breast implant (Dow Corning?) when they got breast cancer after getting those implants. ______________________________________________________________________ Steve Sloan .........
