At what season of the year and time of night? How high in the sky? In winter, the Milky Way passes between Orion and Gemini. Several bright (first magnitude) stars in that region of the sky. The summer Milky Way cuts through the "Summer Triangle" of Deneb, Vega, and Altair, and heads south to Sagittarius, which is not far from Antares. From the Southern Hemisphere (though not applicable in this case), Crux and alpha and beta Centauri are in or near the Milky Way.
