You are talking about a country where people want to keep their guns so they
can fight back against their *own* government in case it decides to make too
much trouble.  I think we can safely say that there would be serious
resistance to any occupation.  Not everybody, of course, but enough to make
it difficult to wipe out any particular population.

Have you seen the movie "Red Dawn"?  ;-)
