I'm not really shocked either, but I certainly will be witholding
judgement until more facts are in from a less biased source than
Sharon's interrogation unit.

RE: overall American pov - don't mistake the discourse on this list or
that of our American politicians as the overall perspective.  Many
Americans are struggling with watching an embattled ally and friend
(Israel) commit what, to many of us, are excesses.  Is this what we have
to look forward to in our "War on Terror '02"?  Our current President
has put forth a vision that is flat, simplistic, and belies his small
world-view, setting a tone and context for debate that has trouble
wrestling with the realities a situation like Israel has to deal with.
This overly basic and somewhat flawed perspective on world conflicts may
dominate our media, but there are many, many Americans for whom it is
not a case of black & white, Israel=good & Palastinians=bad.
