So this is really sort of cool. The newly approved head of the NIH Zerhoni is a radiologist(for members of my often maligned specialty a true honor), the chairman and Johns Hopkins (one of the truly great medical schools in the world). And I know the guy. Well a little. I was invited to speak at a Hopkins course a few years ago and we had a few meals together. One of my best friends in Neuroradiology works for him (or worked for him). Extremely smart, very good business sense and charismatic (Zherhoni not my friend who come to think of it is very smart as well). It will be interesting to see how he plays the stem cell and cloning debates. I would assume his poltiics are on the conservative side in general (otherwise he would not have been nominated) but based purely on my indirect knowledge of him and his work, I would be surprised if he was in favor of the restrictions that the adminsitration wants to impose.
