Brad DeLong quoted Dick Armey <snip> <<III. Armey wants Sharon to annex the West Bank, but allow those Palestinians who want to remain to remain under Israeli government--without voting rights, without representation, et cetera.>>
Ilana *With* voting rights. Also with serving in army (or doing alternate service - like religious girls) and with paying taxes. <snip> <<MATTHEWS: Well, where do you put the Palestinian state, in Norway? Once the Israelis take back the West Bank permanently and annex it, there's no place else for the Palestinians to have a state. ARMEY: No, no, that's not--that's not at all true. There are many Arab nations that have many hundreds of thousands of acres of land and--and soil and property and opportunity to create a Palestinian state. MATTHEWS: So you would transport--you would transport the Palestinians from Palestine to somewhere else and call it their state? ARMEY: I would be perfectly content to have a homeland, just as--most of...>> Ilana And he is absolutely right. A. Region called "Palestine" includes Jordan, which population is about 70% "Palestinians" and which is much bigger than Israel. Brad DeLong, may I ask if you can find Palestine region on map and look how much of it takes Israel? Thank you for telling me that there is somebody who *is* looking at the map. <G> I don't know what you do or do not know about history of our region - in 1948 when Arab countries attacked newly formed Israel, Arabs that lived in the area were advised to leave it - only till Israel would be destroyed. (You can find some of the documentation on the net). But Israel won. Thus was created "Palestinian nation", it's representatives scattered in almost every Arab country, living in refugee camps, not allowed to become citizens, honed to be Arab countries' weapon against Israel. Palestinian state? I am all for it. At the other side of the Jordan river - plenty of place there *and* plenty of water.( West Bank is mostly desert (not sands - the way "desert" defined in geography books.) I am grateful to Dick Armey for understanding it and for telling it. Ilana from Israel
