I had an idea this morning before my breakfast, so I don't know how good
it is. :P

We've been having trouble lately with people being uncivil towards each
other, and the Wand of Dinging not being applied in a timely manner has
lead to the Bludgeon of the Wall of Shame.

But whatever has been happening lately, it's been more of a punishment
sort of thing.

I propose to more fully reward good behavior.

If a discussion seems to be getting into an area where mud-slinging is
likely to occur, someone following the discussion but not really
interested in wading into the thick of it might volunteer to monitor all
posts and at a certain point, announce the winner of the Civility Award
for that thread for the time period covered.

I'll volunteer to kick this off by announcing that I will read all posts
regarding the Middle East, from now until 7PM CDT Friday, May 17 (which
will be 0:00 GMT May 18), and announce who of the active participants
has been the most civil in the discussion no later than sometime Sunday,
May 19.

The stick hasn't been working very well. Maybe when used in conjunction
with a carrot, it might work better.

(If you think I'm totally nuts with this, feel free to tell me so.)
