May 09, 2002 - This could turn out to be either a bogus rumor or possibly
the coolest comic book movie news to come down the pike in awhile. According
to the film database 4Filmmakers, Warner Brothers is now developing a
feature film version of the DC Comics hero The Flash with the star and
filmmakers behind The Fast and the Furious. 4Filmmakers claims that Vin
Diesel (soon to be seen in xXx) will portray the titular speedster,
reuniting with his Furious director Rob Cohen, producer Neal Moritz and
screenwriter Gary Scott Thompson. Since both Diesel and Cohen won't return
for the Furious sequel, The Flash would more than compensate as a
"consolation prize."

Thompson has also worked on screenplays for a proposed Fast and the Furious
prequel, the Green Lantern movie, a Tony Hawk project, and Timecop 2.
Furthemore, 4Filmmakers claims that Diesel will executive produce The Flash
along with George Zakk and Jeff Robinov. Moritz will produce with Warners
bigwig Lorenzo Di Bonaventura. The production companies listed are Original
Film and One Race Productions.

The site provides the following plot synopsis for The Flash, who was created
by Gardner Fox and Gary Lampert: "After being struck by lightning, Wally
West discovers that he can run at superhuman speeds. Thus, he becomes the
crime-fighting Flash." So they plan on using the Wally West protagonist? I
could see Diesel more as that character than as the Barry Allen version.
Something tells me Diesel will never put on that dorky red costume no matter
how much money they throw at him so brace yourselves for changes to the
character... that is if there's even any truth to this rumor to begin with.

This is not the first super-hero flick that Diesel has been associated with.
He was previously linked with the title roles in both Daredevil and Hellboy.
He's also been lobbying to star as Arnold Schwarzenegger's son "Kon" in King
Conan: Crown of Iron. His next project is the Pitch Black sequel, The
Chronicles of Riddick.
