These are all from today's papers (my brother-in-law just sent this to me.) Jpost, Haaretz and Arutz Sheva are on completely opposite ends of the political spectrum. Jerusalem Post - During visits in Nablus and the Balata refugee camp, Arafat was warmly received when he declared that the Palestinians are prepared to sacrifice "millions of martyrs for Palestine." "To Jerusalem we are going, even if there are millions of martyrs," the crowd chanted back at him. Arutz Sheva - Arafat Calls for Another Million Martyrs While CNN was repeatedly broadcasting Yasser Arafat yesterday saying that he wants peace with his Jewish "cousins" in Israel, at the same time he was calling for "one million martyrs" to march to Jerusalem. Arafat was speaking to a crowd while visiting PLO-controlled Shechem during his first foray outside of Ramallah in almost six months. New York Times - Sometimes good news in the Middle East is a matter of what has not happened. In recent days, despite massing its troops and vowing retaliation for a suicide bombing last week, Israel chose not to invade the Gaza Strip. And Yasir Arafat, leaving Ramallah yesterday for the first time in five months, did not call for more "martyrs." Ha'aretz - Analysis / No mention of shaheeds The chairman's security men had difficulty keeping control of the crowd, trying to praise him and to ask him for favors. And when the crowd began chanting what was once one of his favorite slogans - "a million shaheeds marching on Jerusalem," many noticed that Arafat did not join the chants. You could get dizzy trying to figure it out. Jon _________________________________________________________________ Chat with friends online, try MSN Messenger: http://messenger.msn.com
