Probability Drive

A colleague of mine from Britain asked me how FTL drives work in Vinge's 
novels.  I replied that I once had an idea about probability drive that made 
sense to me at the time, but have forgotten all about it.  I still can't 
recall the details.  I posted it to a BBS in San Diego, the sysop's handle 
was "Dante" but I've forgotten his name.  Nice guy.  Maybe it wasn't his BBS, 
as I'd tried several in the area.  But the effs have got it, since they've 
been recording for a while.  Shame.
