Einstein pictured the continuum of space time as two dimensional with gravity 
wells.

What if you narrowed the continuum of spacetime to a strip of fixed width, 
then took one end, twisted it and seamlessly joined it to the other end?

You would have a one-sided spacetime continuum that was infinite in that as 
you travelled along it you would never get to an end.

I have absolutely no idea why or if it is important.
