Actually, this is done alot now with heart/cholesterol meds, etc
New drugs come out all the time and it is difficult for many MDs to
know all the specifics of which to give.  Groups such as Kaiser give
the MDs a research based/effectiveness "slide guide" to help them 
know which meds are best based on various "pieces of the puzzle"
