Each node gets to make its own rules. Each individual gets to select the nodes he or she is in, unless the node disallows it. Thus, as legal and moral law, the MMC allows for both the death penalty and for abandonment of the death penalty [for example], as democratically decided within each node. Addendum: some nodes will not be democratic according to their rules, but since their sibling nodes are "individuals", undemocratic nodes are allowed and encouraged under a parent node, as in the basic node of a family [parents, children]. I'm calculating that if undemocratic nodes penetrate down to the primary nodes, then either a reboot is called for or a new societal mechanism will have been found and accepted [democratically].
