I read _The Bohr Maker_ within a few months of its being available in
paperback, October of whatever year. That Christmas, I gave a copy to a
friend who was really into Octavia E. Butler at that time, and he really
liked it. I gave another copy to a friend who was into Gibson, Sterling
and Bear at that time, and he liked it. If you like Neal Stephenson, I
think there's a decent chance you'll like Nagata. (Of course, I haven't
read everything of hers, but I recommend her as an author to friends
looking for new authors to start reading anyway.)
That's just the isolated cases I have personal experience with. (The
Butler fan went on to buy more of her stuff. I think the other bought
at least one other, but I don't know for sure.)
