True.  But suppose you were to expose that same eight-year-old boy to Derek Wildstar 
and company?  He'd be in hooked in, oh, maybe fifteen seconds.  :)

I can imagine.  It's funny how something as arguably trivial as a cartoon can have 
such an impact on you at that age.

Not to me.  I still remember most of the theme song even now.  *goes off humming away*

You know, Star Blazers also has one of the single worst science gaffes I've ever seen 
in something trying to be serious.  They use the Wave Motion Engine for the first time 
to get to Mars from Earth, and in a voice-over, one of the crew says something like 
"We've traveled hundreds of light years in under a minute!"  :-)
