Travellers can beat the misery of mosquitoes with a computer program that
paralyses the insect's wings by emitting a high-frequency sound.

The program has been so popular that the internet holiday company
holiday.co.uk is planning to make it available to anyone who buys a flight
or holiday from it next summer.

The brainchild of a Thai company, Anti-Mal 2.0 can be downloaded free.
About130,000 people have already taken advantage of it, 50,000 in the first
three days of its availability.

An upgraded program also sees off cockroaches by irritating their antennae.

David Newbury, 35 a telesales manager from Essex, recently used the software
while on holiday on the Red Sea. "It really works," he said. "I turn the
laptop on in my room with the program running and I haven't seen a single
bug since."

The man who created the program, Saranyou Punyaratanabunbhu, said: "I dare
say that the mosquito-repelling success rate is around 90 per cent."

Because of the impracticability of carrying a laptop on holiday, scientists
are now working on a hand-held version.
