Yeah, who has the best lobbyists and who is most interested in a prize instituted by a western organisation that is highly valued in the west. I mean, there is that claim that it is the most prestigious prize in the "world" but I'm not so sure if all the world is included in that mentioning. Are there Japaneese scollars who won that prize? I do know for a fact that in certain areas they do some really groundbreaking work that hardly gets a mention in western research literature just because of language barriers.
