The local PBS TV station is giving (people seeking elected office) 5 minutes to speak on their (issues, platform). I'm not watching the show, just listening. Last week a democrat for a state house seat started normally, but by the end he was quite mad, pointing his finger at the camera to punctuate each point of how the current government is letting the people down.
Today there were two gems, candidates from the Green party and the Libertarian. The Green was clearly unpolished, he spent 75% of the time telling his personal history, and then just said what was wrong, no solutions. He finished by saying that ten people have been released from death sentences with DNA evidence, so the death penalty should be abolished and these innocents set free. (Not trying to show a bias for against the death penalty, just how does a prisoner go from a death sentence to innocent. Yes some are innocent, but most are not.) The Libertarian, again I'm not trying to judge a book by it's cover, I'm leaning more towards Libertarian each day, the candidate had very long hair, was wearing a blue denim shirt with a flag tie and a flag handkerchief in his pocket. Nothing wrong with it, just very visually bold. He was a better speaker than the Green, but also needed more rehearsal to state his points clearly. There were four points: most laws are restrictive and should be removed from the books, the health care/insurance system has too strong a strangle hold on the formation of these laws which also keep new businesses out, the blue collar citizen is the backbone of the state and country but is restricted in what fun he can have, and teens leave the state because of low starting wage jobs and again not being able to have 'fun' after hours. Maybe I should start volenteering for these parties, become a king-maker. I can't hold an elected office because of my current job. (I can hear someone salivating over using past e-mails for blackmail). Can anyone see a three or four party system? Could the Libs get a strong foothold in the some states, start to become a real voice? _______________________________________________ http://www.mccmedia.com/mailman/listinfo/brin-l
