I know the guy who created mail-archive.com. It's kind of an interesting thing, in that all a listowner has to do to be included is to add the archive's address to the mailing list. That keeps the administration very minimal, since he doesn't have to take care of subscribing lists, etc. I've usually added it to every list I maintain, since it results in a searchable archive that I don't have to maintain. Lately, I've been somewhat more impressed with it because I've been tangling with the thorny problem of automatically recognizing a consistent, unique identification string for each mailing list I'm monitoring for my current project. With a few hundred subscriptions, that's a small nightmare. And so after a while, I gave up and turned the problem around. Now nothing goes in my database unless it is recognized as a known mailing list. Speaking of which, I think I now have the pieces of a complete Brin-L archive, but until I make an important upcoming presentation to a potential client, I'm not going to mess with assembling it. On the other hand, my archiver and analysis tools are so fast that it wouldn't take long... We'll see.
