Surely it's the administration of SS and the constant "tweaking" that's at fault - not the concept.

Besides, who in FDR's day could have foreseen the massive % growth in non-income-producing population in western countries - the longevity might have been predicted, but not the size of the baby boom and the reduction in birth rates since (which is really the problem - a pyramid scheme actually works all the while there are new entrants handing over cash).

Even 401K is a worthy concept - it is the details that have been screwed up.
