Smooth compared to what?  Compared to a number of real "charmers" I've
met, no.  But his social skills with "the opposite sex" are ahead of the
curve as far as "guys who go to SF cons" goes.  (Or maybe I've just
spent too much time at AggieCon, where the average age of the con-goer
is lower than most cons, and have had too much exposure to guys under 30
who haven't figured it out yet.)

He's not trying to get anyone into bed, so that level of interaction is
just missing.  So what you get is someone willing to treat you as a
human being with a brain, and *perhaps* with looks, and that can be
rather refreshing.  :)

now trying to figure out what's worse -- the guy looking at you with
lust as a primary focus, or the guy so totally lacking in social skills
that conversation starts to become painful within the first 30 seconds
or so, forcing you to figure out the way to best graciously end the
conversation
