OK, I can see why the crew would be upset about that comment - my
father-in-law is a pilot, as are several family friends on my wife's
side, and they're all professional, competent and dedicated pilots.
Even if you're joking, the last thing you want to do is annoy the men
& women that are keeping the large metal thing filled with jet fuel
from hitting the ground. That said, I see no way that comment could
be construed as a threat. But then again, there's this case below:

http://www.lewrockwell.com/orig3/monahan1.html

A man and his wife are taking a flight to a friend's wedding when they
are pulled out of line for a search. During the search, guards fondle
his wife's breasts, and when he yells at them about it he is
immediately thrown in jail. For the good of the country, you know.

I haven't seen any official write-ups on this, so take it as
anecdotal. Even without this, there's adequate documentation of how
bugf*ck insane airline security is getting - I mean, when a kid can't
take his G.I. Joe action figure's TOY FRICKIN' RIFLE on the plane with
him, you wonder what new variant of crack is being smoked by these
mooks.
