I stayed in a huge suite in Tokyo once for a few days for less than $100 a day, using airline miles to halve the price. It was at the Disneyland Sheraton, outside the city itself, during the off-season. Apparently it's just not Japanese to go to Disneyland (or any other vacation) at the wrong time. The hotel upgraded me a two or three categories because I was in their frequent guest program. Pretty bizarre, since I was accustomed to getting hit for $400 or so a night for a cubicle. And until you learn the trains and subways, you really don't want to stay far from your destination in Tokyo, since the cab drivers often only know a part of the city.
