This will definitely come up when you apply for a first mortgage, especially
if you are taking advantage of a 5% or less down payment deal. I was amazed
by some of the things I was asked about from my credit report when we bought
our first house. They asked "why did you miss a payment on this credit card
5 years ago?" Uh.... "I don't know" wasn't an acceptable response. So we
had to make up some story for each of these things before they would go
through with the mortgage. It was amazing. (My father and I also share a
first name so a whole bunch of his credit cards ended up on my credit
report. The bank said that it sure looked like I had a lot of credit out
there. Since most of those cards were issued in the early 70's, I asked
them how many 7 year olds get credit? They stopped asking about them after
that...)
