I finished the year at 160-96 (.625), but here come the playoffs. The
Upset Special finished at 9-7 and playoff elgible as the Panthers took out
the Saints.
Indianapolis at NY Jets - While I have a gut feeling that Peyton Manning is
due to get a playoff win, I just can't see the Colts avoiding getting
crushed by the Jets. I thought before the season that the Jets would be
the best team in the AFC, and after a slow start they are finally clicking
on all cylinders - Curtis Martin is again running well, the defense is
improving, and Chad Pennington is imply lighting things up in the passing
game. The Colts meanwhile are minus Qadry Ismail, leaving no one to take
the pressure off of Marvin Harrison, and Edgerring James simply doesn't
look completely healthy. Plus, the offensive line is questionable, and
the defense was exposed by the Giants two weeks ago. The only way I see
this is... Pick: JETS
Atlanta at Green Bay - The last two times Atlanta has gone to Lambeau, they
won once outright, and lost a second being Favre'd at the end of the 4th
Quarter and then missing a field goal in overtime. Those games, though,
were on Sunday afternoons, not at night, in the cold. Still, the Packers
are really hurting with Donald Driver and Darren Sharper, two of their best
players, questionable. While betting against Brett Favre in the playoffs
at home may be foolish, if the Bucs can win a game in freezing temperatures
anything can happen. Plus, the Falcons remain inexorably Super Bowl
bound. Pick: FALCONS UPSET SPECIAL
Cleveland at Pittsburgh - Believe it or not, the Browns may be better with
Kelly Holcomb at QB, especially now that William Green is emerging as a
solid runnner. Still, the Steelers are a complete team, and are lurking
below everyone's radar screens. I think it will be close, but... Pick:
STEELERS
NY Giants at San Francisco - This is the popular upset pick, and indeed the
Niners may almost be too rested after playing two meaningless games.
Still, I just can't help but feel that the Niners are a very good team, and
the Giants are merely above average. Plus the Niners are at home, and are
completely overdue to put together a complete football game. Pick: NINERS
