Yeah, democratic process sucks when you end up with a Chairman you don't like, huh?

There are greater issues here than whether the democratic process yielded a country some of us 'don't like'. With Libya's terrible human rights track record, there are several dozen countries that are not only better qualified, but would present a message to the world that the UN really cares about and is willing to fight for human rights.

I assume you're not saying you approve of Libya as a choice? What's your personal opinion about their human rights track record? Do you think their history should not have been a factor in considering if they should preside over the commission?

But then, the effects of having Libya becoming chairman should not be all that dramatic; it is not like the Chairman decides how the HRC will vote on issues.
Perhaps. But the Commission's image and credibility are now tarnished, since Libya's past sins will be glossed over and ignored. Libya is being given a free ride and tanj that.

Ah yes, the 'Dissidents will be executed' political plan. Freedom of Choice in action! :)
