Hilary Rosen has announced that she will step down as chairman/CEO of the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) at the end of 2003. "I have young children, and I want to devote more of my time to them," she says in a statement. "This has been an extremely difficult decision, but I know it is the right one for my family." Rosen joined the Washington, D.C.-based trade group 17 years ago and was named to her current post in 1998. The RIAA board will conduct a formal search for a replacement over the next several months. RIAA president Cary Sherman will remain in his current position and is expected to serve on the search committee. The news comes a day after the RIAA won a landmark lawsuit against Internet service provider Verizon, which was ordered by a U.S. District Court judge to identify a subscriber who had illegally made more than 600 copyrighted music files available over the Internet.
