My old office had a thermostat that wasn't connected to anything. The
building people swore that it worked. But one day heating/cooling guy came
in to figure out why my office was like a meat locker and he confirmed that
it wasn't connected to anything. After that, they said it was a mistake.

Hmmm... maybe not...

I've installed fake ones. I've disconnected working ones and hid the real thermostat. You don't know how maddening it is to have a quality lab, where the temp is supposed to be a certain range and the night people would crank the device fully one way or the other, thinking it'd work faster, and the next shift would come in and couldn't work until the temp was brought back to normal.

While I like it warm, I'd rather work in the cold because I can get warm on my own. If it's already hot, nothing I can do will make me colder, other than sitting perfectly still. Which is what I do now anyway.

But that was then
