Cat like? I didn't know they were cat like.
Chelgrian's are covered with fur, have retractable claws and "long Tawny tails, and they prefer to sit in "curl pads". Also they are predators. From what I gather they have three legs and two arms. I know there were other cues, but I don't remember them exactly. Read The Memory of Running section of chapter 8 (page 226 in my paperback edition) and maybe the Closure section of the last chapter.

Use of Weapons should always be the first Culture book you read, to see if you can stand it. <joking>
Haven't found a copy yet short of paying $20 for a paperback at amazon.uk. Which I intend to do shortly if I don't find a copy soon. Mr. Taylor?

GCU Trolling for a Book
It's on e-bay for $5.00

Item # 2908037466

(cause the URL is huge)

Also half.com for $4.00

At the worst I could send you my copy if you pay to ship it back.

I thought the Chelgrian were more bear like, because of their size. Wasn't the fifth appendage in the middle of the stomach? It doesn't matter. I can't look for myself because books go on a tour of five houses after I read them.
