I'm sure a good 1st printing of GwtW would be far beyond my means.  There are two 
first editions, from what I gather; there's the real first edition, then there was one 
that came around shortly after that's different.  I can't recall all the details, but 
IIRC there's no difference in the text, just in the presentation (the dates in the 
indicia are presented differently, the text is in two columns per page, etc.).  I 
almost got one of those, but it went beyond what I was willing to pay.

So I got her a book of some stories Margaret Mitchell wrote as a girl that were found 
in someone's attic or some such.  Apparently, Mitchell requested all her writings be 
destroyed when she died, but this small cache survived.  She was very pleased to get 
this surprise gift.  Maybe one day when I have more disposable income, I'll get her 
that first edition; for now it'll probably have to wait.
