It's certainly possible, but most spy satellites are launched from
Vandenburg, where it's easier to get them into a polar orbit.  And it's a
lot cheaper than a shuttle launch.  We can see Vandenburg launches from the
Bay Area, especially at night, but they never pre-announce that kind.

Living close to the final approach paths into Moffett Field, we also get
other indications of when something is going on...

Watching one of the news feeds today, there was mention that Columbia's mission included "observations" regarding "the effects of high temperatures on the Middle East deserts". Middle East..

I wonder....
